5 ideas for STEM

Water purification is a big need in many countries.  You hear all the time about organizations asking for donations so they can buy 3rd world country water purification devices.  Someone could make a game using the idea for the base of it.

Some countries hospitals are in need of better technology.  Hospitals in 3rd world countries aren't equiped to handle some of the diseases and injuries that are common in the area they are located.  You could make a game where an organization has to manage the shipment of technology to the areas based on need, costs, number of population, and how many needs shipped.

Areas hit with natural disasters are always in need of help immeadately following the disaster.  Someone could a game managing different groups of different types of people to various areas.  As you get further through the game more people, and groups can be added to your organization.  An example of the game would be like starting with 3 medical teams, a group of people handing out food, and a group of people handing out supplies.  You could send your group to the area most needed and rotate them depending on the needs of other areas.

The government has been setting standards on pollution and advocating green technology.  A game could be made where government funds are used to equip different government buildings with alternate sources of energy, like solar.

Paper prototype

For the past week or so we have been doing our paper prototype.  It didn't take us very long to do ours, because most of it can't really be translated very well from paper to computer.  We are completely done with ours now, we just have to do all the catching up with our learning logs and blog.  It's probably going to take awhile.

The Guest

Yesterday we had a guest come to class. He taught us about Adobe flash and tricks in it.   we were in class for a double period, so we had lots of time to do all the stuff that we needed.  He showed us some of his things has done.  We started making a few things in flash and photoshop for our real game.  It was very helpful.

Game topic

We have decided to make our topic something to do with contrads disease, I think that is what it is called. We don't have a lot of info on it yet. We also might include a flesh eating bacteria in the game. We will finish it up monday.

Our game topic

We have picked our mini game to be like the old game where you make the ball bust bricks. We aren't sure right now if we can do that since our teacher is absent today, but we will ask tomorrow. If not then we will jsut make a new one. I think it will be fun and easy.

My favorite music group

I Don't really have a favorite music group.  I just listen to whatever songs I like.  Usually there is only a few songs from each group that I like.  I like soft music, but I like harder types at the same time which is a reason why I like two metal bands.  People think all metal is screaming and loud, but there are exceptions.  And I like those exceptions. Like the band Nightwish. I really only like 1 of their songs, but the one I like I really like.

Globaloria games

I thought that most of the games were a little on the bland side.  I can see potential for them to be fun though.  It did help to give me ideas.  In our game we might use something similar to the linear levels in the mythology game, but of course it'll be very different. I think that games educational ideas got in the way of the fun too much.  I hope that we can figure out a balance between fun and educational.

My game

I have decided to work with Cody on my game, we decided to make a game about zombies.  It will focus on a variety of things, but mostly science and medical.  We are going to make a game with zombies in it.  The game will focus mainly on curing them, but we aren't really sure what disease it's really going to be.  We haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it.

What I want in Globaloria

I really think this class will be fun.  I want to get a lot of experience in technology.  I think it will just be fun to be able to learn to make games.  I have been a gamer for most my life and to have chance to make them, and in school, just seems like a great idea. 
I'm not sure what kind of game I even want to make, I think a friend and I are going to team up.  We haven't really thought much about it, or even really talked.  We are going to try to make it as elaborate as possible, or it'll end up a huge flop.
